CNC Milling of an Aluminum RF / Microwave Housing
A producer of custom CNC machined products; PCR Technologies, Inc. was approached by a customer in the telecommunication industry to manufacture this 6061-T6 aluminum RF microwave housing. The project required a variety of CNC milling techniques including profiling, pocketing, drilling, tapping, as well as drilling and tapping of side holes. Selective solder bonding was use to bond the circuit board to housing
The finished housing measured 10.000″ in length, 4.000″ in width, and .500″ in height, and required tolerances of ±.003″ Finishing required the use of immersion gold plating, meeting Mil-Spec MIL-G-45204. All of the processes applied had to meet PCR’s rigorous quality control, machining of the housing was completed in five weeks, while the bonding required two weeks. We produced 1,000 of these housings with further production ongoing.
